Facial Palsy Therapy

Sarah is an experienced facial palsy therapist, working with children, young people and adults to support their rehabilitation after experiencing facial palsy. Sarah is also experienced at working with children, young people and adults to support their rehabilitation after facial reanimation (or ‘smile surgery’).

People who have facial palsy experience weakness of their facial muslces after damage to the facial nerve. There are many causes of facial palsy, and Sarah is not involved in the diagnosis of the cause of facial palsy.

First Appointment
During your first appointment, Sarah will review your medical history, perform a clinical examination and, following this, will have a full discussion of the available treatment options. Specific treatment options may include massage, stretches, exercises, assessment and advice about eating and drinking, and speech sound production. Sarah will then discuss your personalised therapy plan with you, demonstrate your rehabilitation program, and provide you with a written therapy program.

Review Appointments

Sarah will then offer you review appointments to monitor your progress, and set new goals for your rehabilitation program as required. At each review appointment, Sarah will undertake a new clinical examination to ensure your goals are based on your current progress.
